Serum Levels of Lipids, Lipoproteins and Paraoxonase Activity in Pre-Eclampsia

Abstract: Serum paraoxonase 1 (PON1) activity and the oxidation of lipoproteins were investigated in 35 women with pre-eclampsia and in 35 healthy control women with normal pregnancies. Blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), serum levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and lipoprotein (a) (Lp[a]), and PON1 activity were assessed. There were no significant between-group differences in subject age, gestat… Show more

“…Serum HDL-cholesterol level was significantly lower in pre-eclamptic than that of control normal pregnancy (p<0.001). This result was similar to other studies that serum HDL-cholesterol level was significantly lower in pre-eclamptic than that of control normal pregnancy 1,6,10,11,12,18 .…”

“…There are many contradictory reports in findings have been reported by others (117)(118)(119)(120)(121)(122)(123) (124)(125)(126)(127). In pregnan cies complicated with preeclampsia or hypertension, a sig nificantly elevated Lp(a) concentration has been observed in some studies (128)(129)(130)(131)(132)(133)(134)(135)(136), but not consistently (120,121,(137)(138)(139)(140)(141)(142)(143). Of note, the majority of these studies did not assess apo(a) isoform sizes.…”

“…Increased plasma apoE polymorphisms have been reported in women with pre-eclampsia (17,18), however findings relating to apoA1 measurements in pre-eclampsia are conflicting (19,20). To-date, it is not known whether AIBP is expressed in the placenta or altered in pre-eclampsia.…”
