“…In the same study, YKL-40 and UACR were independent markers of cardiovascular mortality with only weak intercorrelation and in accordance with the studies on low-grade albuminuria and risk of cardiovascular disease, YKL-40 and low-grade albuminuria synergistically predicted cardiovascular mortality. Other studies support this association between YKL-40 and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, because YKL-40 levels are found to be associated with the presence and extent of coronary artery disease as assessed by coronary angiography (22), and, just recently, YKL-40 levels have been found to be elevated in patients with myocardial infarction (23).…”

“…14,18,19 Recently, several clinical studies have described an association between increased YKL-40 levels, and several cardiovascular conditions, myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, and mortality. 10,20,21 PEX is a disorder of the extracellular matrix that is frequently related to severe chronic secondary open-angle glaucoma. 2 Extraocular deposition of pseudoexfoliation material has been localized to the connective tissues or septa traversing the organ tissue.…”

“…High in vivo expression of YKL-40 mRNA and protein is found by macrophages in tissues with inflammation such as arteriosclerotic plaques [15], inflamed synovial membranes [16], arthritic vessels of patients with giant cell arteritis [17], and peritumoral macrophages [18]. Plasma YKL-40 is significantly increased in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and stable chronic coronary artery disease (CAD) [19][20][21]. Patients with persistent AF have higher plasma levels of YKL-40 than patients with SR, but significantly lower levels than patients with permanent AF [22].…”
