Serum Metabolomics Analysis of the Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Gallic Acid on Rats With Acute Inflammation

Abstract: Background: Gallic acid (GA) is a natural small-molecule polyphenol having a wide range of pharmacological activities. Until now, some works have studied the effect and the mechanisms of GA against inflammation. However, whether or how gallic acid regulates the downstream metabolic disorder against acute inflammation remains unclear. The present study explored the protective effect and the potential mechanism of GA on acute inflammation through the metabolomics approach. Methods: An acute inflammation rat model… Show more

“…Studies conducted by various groups showed that ellagic acid can prevent inflammation and oxidative stress in elastase-induced emphysema model in rat (Mansouri et al, 2020;Sohrabi et al, 2021) and reduce oxidative stress in pulmonary cells induced by elastase (Bayati et al, 2022). Previous reports also show that gallic acid can ameliorate COPD linked lung inflammation and emphysema in mice (Singla et al, 2020;Wu et al, 2022). It can also prevent COPD-associated exacerbation in mice (Singla et al, 2021).…”

“…In a model of visceral pain, gallic acid (22) or P2X7 shRNA treatment could diminish spinal cord, DRG, and hippocampus P2X7 receptor Experimentally, gallic acid (22) has been documented to produce cardioprotective, anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressive, and neuroprotective effects without any serious toxicity (no observable adverse effects at 5000 mg/kg per o.s.) [63][64][65][66]. Its analgesic properties have been widely studied in acute [67] as well as chronic and neuropathic pain models.…”
