Serum microRNAs; miR-30c-5p, miR-223-3p, miR-302c-3p and miR-17-5p could be used as novel non-invasive biomarkers for HCV-positive cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: Recently, serum miRNAs have been evolved as possible biomarkers for different diseases including hepatocellular carcinoma and other types of cancers. Investigating certain serum miRNAs as novel non-invasive markers for early detection of HCV-positive cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The expression profiles of 58 miRNA were analyzed in patient's plasma of chronic hepatitis C (CHC), HCV-positive cirrhosis and HCV-positive HCC and compared with control group samples. Totally 94 plasma samples; 64 pat… Show more

“…Besides chemicals, particularly reactive oxygen species were positively mutagenic for adjacent cancer cells, accelerating their genetic evolution towards the high malignant carcinoma80. In blood, the increased expression of miR-30c-5p could be used as a new classifier for HCV-positive HCC in early-stage81. In addition, hepatic necroinflammatory activity was associated with the high expression of miR-122-5p in plasma.…”

“…For example, miR-24 was found significantly up-regulated in HCC tumor tissue, cell lines, [37,38] and serum compared with healthy controls and/or chronic liver disease patients. [39,40] Serum miR-505 level was also increased in HCC cases compared to controls. [41] The expression of miR-130a was significantly higher in HCV-infected hepatocytes and liver biopsy specimens.…”

“…Many miRNAs have been shown to be aberrantly expressed in HCC patients' tissues and serum [19][20][21][22]. In addition, at least 23 miRNAs might have diagnostic and prognostic significance in HCC [23].…”
