Serum Myeloperoxidase, C-reactive Protein and α1-acid Glycoprotein: Insights about Cardiovascular Risk in End-stage Renal Disease

Abstract: Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Elevated serum concentrations of myeloperoxidase (MPO) are associated with an increased risk of developing CVD. The objective of this study was to evaluate serum MPO levels, as well as other laboratory parameters, in individuals with ESRD, with and without CVD, undergoing hemodialysis. Methods 80 volunteers were admitted, divided into the following groups: control group (CON): 20 individuals w… Show more

“…The presence of isolated systolic AHT, lower DBP, PP widening, and excessive nDBP dipping are important features in arterial stiffness [ 13 ]. Some studies also support that low levels of some alpha-1-globulins are associated with lower BP figures and fewer cardiovascular events whereas some alpha-2-globulins have been associated with greater arterial stiffness [ 36 , 37 , 38 ].…”

“…É, portanto, um mediador de resposta inflamatória comparticipação importante em doenças cardiovasculares (ARATANI, 2017;MALECKI et al, 2020). Rickli et al (2020) observaram que os níveis séricos da mieloperoxidase encontraram-se alterados em indivíduos com doença renal crônica que realizam hemodiálise.…”
