Abstract:End-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients demonstrate an increased incidence of sudden cardiac death (SCD) with declining kidney functioning as a consequence of blood potassium ([K+]) homeostasis impairment, which is restored by hemodialysis (HD) therapy. The clinically established method for the diagnosis of [K+] imbalance is blood tests, an invasive and costly procedure that limits continuous monitoring of ESRD patients.
