Serum Prostaglandin D Synthase Level after Coronary Angioplasty May Predict Occurrence of Restenosis

Abstract: SummaryLipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase (L-PGDS), which is responsible for the biosynthesis of PGD2, has recently been found to be present in the atherosclerotic plaque of the human coronary artery and also to be secreted in human serum. We measured the serum L-PGDS level and compared it with the expressions of the platelet membrane surface glycoprotein and neutrophil adhesion molecule in patients undergoing PTCA. The L-PGDS level significantly decreased (P < 0.01) and the platelet surface expression… Show more

“…229 Serum L-PGDS levels increase after coronary angioplasty and negatively correlate with the reoccurrence of restenosis. 230 Also in mice, the expression of L-PGDS in the myocardium is increased under stress conditions like chronic hypoxemia 231 and PGD 2 levels in plasma are reportedly elevated after MI. 232 L-PGDS-derived PGD 2 mediates the protective effect of glucocorticoids against myocardial I/R injury by the activation of the PGD 2 -DPr1-ERK1/2 (extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2) signaling pathway 233 or the transcription factor Nrf2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) via FPr.…”
