Serum proteomic, peptidomic and metabolomic profiles in myasthenia gravis patients during treatment with Qiangji Jianli Fang

Abstract: BackgroundQiangji Jianli Fang (QJF) has been used for treatment of myasthenia gravis (MG) in China. However, our understanding of the effects of QJF against MG at the molecular level is limited. This study aims to investigate the effects of QJF treatment of MG patients on the protein, peptide and metabolite levels in serum.MethodsHigh-throughput proteomic, peptidomic and metabolomic techniques were applied to investigate serum samples from 21 healthy individuals and 47 MG patients before and after QJF treatmen… Show more

“…Professor Deng created Qiangji Jianli (QJJL) decoction according to his clinical experience 16 . QJJL decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription modified from Buzhong Yiqi decoction and includes Radix astragali, Radix codonopsis pilosulae, Atractylodes macrocephala, Radix angelicae sinensis, Cimicifugae rhizoma, Radix bupleuri, Pericarpium citri reticulatae and Radix glycyrrhizae 17 . The active components of Radix bupleuri can attenuate the collapse of the mitochondrial membrane potential and repair DNA damage 18 .…”

“…The active components of Radix Astragali include polysaccharides, flavonoids and saponins, and the active components of Radix codonopsis include polysaccharides. All these components are beneficial for autoimmune disease because they can inhibit the production of serum autoantibodies and total IgG [ 23 ]. Moreover, Bu-Zhong-Yi-Qi-Tang, which contains the two components of Radix astragali and Radix codonopsis, has been proved to be able to strengthen antibody response in upper respiratory mucosal immune system in vivo by enhancing influenza virus-specific IgA and IgG antibody titers in nasal cavity and sera [ 24 ].…”
