Service supply chain management process capabilities: Measurement development

Abstract: The role of supply chain management processes in achieving competitive advantages in the service industry has been widely discussed. However, due to the lack of valid measurement scales, the effects of service supply chain management (SSCM) process capability cannot be ascertained. This study aims to develop and validate measurement scales for SSCM process capability constructs. The measurement scales were initially developed by literature review, and refined by Q-sort method. The SSCM process capability is a … Show more

“…Second, despite previous studies having examined the operational impact of supplier integration for manufacturing firms (Zhang et al, 2018), few studies have empirically operationalized this concept in services. This study adds to this literature and thus respond to recent calls for more research on service SCM (Boon-itt et al, 2017;Liu et al, 2019). Third, it develops and validates the measurement scale of IS capabilities in managing service supply chains, which is consistent with the recent call within the SCM literature to explore a comprehensive range of IT in SCM (Ganbold et al, 2020).…”

“…Given the rapid economic expansion of service activities of global businesses in recent times (Kowalkowski et al 2015), the service supply chain has become an important topic for debate amongst the key researchers in the operations management area (Wang et al 2015;Chithambaranathan et al 2015;Aitken et al 2015;Holmström and Partanen 2014). However, there is still lack of fundamental research in this area, meaning our understanding of the topic is still rudimentary (Baltacioglu et al 2007;Boon-itt, Wong, and Wong 2017;Harvey 2016) which is limiting its advancement in terms of quality, process excellence and integration.…”

“…SSC research has gained significance due to the increasing importance of the service sector in economy. However, the main body of the SCM studies still focuses on the manufacturing sector [18]. The literature on SSC remains relatively nascent [19].…”
