Session Mobility of SIP over Multiple Devices

Abstract: Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) h as been widely applied to telephony service. SIP is also adopted as the signal communication protocol of VoIP and 3GPP, so the development of SIP receiving much concern. Currently the research of SIP can be divided into four issues, including terminal mobility, session mobility, personal mobility, and service mobility. In this paper, we address the issue of session mobility. We want to solve the problem allowing a user to transfer, split, and retrieve a session over multiple… Show more

“…In fact, comparing this solution with existing proposals in [6] and [7], the complexity of our solution is drastically reduced and the implementation is easier, modular and allows interoperability. Besides this initial test, we carried out a more complex performance analysis, whose results are shown in Fig.10.…”

“…The majority of works focus on SIP-based session mobility [6], [7], so the solutions are tied to the use of this protocol. Besides, some recent approaches, such as [8] and [9] are based on synchronization of session data, which are stored on a proxy or external entity accessible by different devices.…”

“…Our home security gateway architecture is implemented on twp Java based open sources: OW2 Forge Oscar [16], and Eclipse ECF Project jSLP [17]. The SIUA is improved from the SIS [9], and implemented based on SIP Communicator [18], which is implemented based on the NIST-SIP [19], JAIN-SIP [20] and JMF (Java Media Framework).…”

“…Proxies, Registrars and Redirects respectively negotiate initiation of sessions on the users behalf, registers sessions and redirects them, should a migration be needed. Displayed in [10] and [11] are two examples of SIP based solutions. One drawback of session mobility through SIP is that the signaling is relatively heavy and requires text messages of considerable size.…”
