Sex Differences in Pedobarographic Findings and Relationship between Radiographic and Pedobarographic Measurements in Young Healthy Adults

Abstract: BackgroundAlthough pedobarographic measurement is increasingly used for clinical and research purposes, relatively few published studies have investigated normative data. This study examined pedobarographic findings in young healthy adults with regard to sex-related differences and correlations among measurement indices.MethodsTwenty young healthy adults (mean age, 22.4 years; standard deviation, 1.2 years; and 10 males and 10 females) were included. Weight bearing anteroposterior (AP) and lateral foot radiogr… Show more

“…Our findings showed higher hindfoot valgus values in females similar to other parameters found in the literature, including sagittal curvature of the femoral condyle, 6 external tibial rotation, trochlear groove orientation, 23 excessive eversion of the foot, pedobarographic findings, and foot disorders. 8,14 However, our methodology and samples do not allow us to investigate sex differences as a causative factor of valgus deformities.…”

“…The data of standard walking condition was used as a reference data for comparison, and was obtained from our previously published article. [16] Pedobarographic data were collected during 1-minute walking and averaged using specific software designed for the treadmill foot pressure measurement system. The area of pedobarographic measurement was divided into five segments, medial forefoot (MFF), lateral forefoot (LFF), medial midfoot (MMF), lateral midfoot (LMF), and heel, wherein the forefoot, midfoot, and heel were equally divided (Fig 1).…”
