“…At the same time, objectivity requires emphasizing that the Ile‐de‐France rams had fairly high values of ejaculate volume both in breeding and in non‐breeding season, and its variability was insignificant, unlike the other three breeds. Similar results were obtained in the Mamontova study et al (2021).…”

“…For instance, rams are sexually active throughout the year. However, semen quality and quantity, as indicators of reproductive efficiency in male small ruminants, are affected dramatically by the environment in temporary and permanent ways, which include ambient temperature, period of daylight, age, feeding, conditions during semen collection and management (Kulaksız et al, 2019; Mamontova et al, 2021).…”

“…In addition to that, semen concentration was not significantly different Table (1). This result was supported by [30,31] but disagreed with [11,23]. The semen concentration of current results was in accordance with the normal concentration range (1.6-6.0 ) 109 sperm/ml [32].…”

“…On the other hand, with regard to the physiological differences that may exist between hair and wool rams from a reproductive point of view, it should be mentioned that the reproductive seasonality is longer and more pronounced in wool rams, and they show a longer seasonality due to their greater body weight, with each breed responding to the photoperiod depending on the latitude at which they are commercially exploited ( Ungerfeld, 2012 ). In this case, woolly males show seasonal variations in semen quality and sexual activity, the duration of which is less pronounced compared to ewes ( Mamontova et al, 2021 ; Aibazov et al, 2022 ). Consequently, woolly sheep breeds are characterised by different photoreactivity, where the effect of seasonality and circadian variations on sexual behaviour and semen quality in rams has been studied from tropical latitudes to both poles of the earth ( Godfrey et al, 1998 ; Mamontova et al, 2021 ).…”
