“…Despite the implications for QoL, discussions of sexual health between patients with hemophilia and physicians do not appear to be standard 8,9. This problem has also been identified in other patient populations experiencing chronic illness, such as cancer,10 cystic fibrosis,11 lower back pain,12 type 2 diabetes,13 and rheumatoid arthritis 14. In these patients, sexual satisfaction is significantly correlated with QoL but is not routinely evaluated during QoL surveys or at routine doctor visits 15.…”

“…Causes are thought to be multifactorial including age, disease duration, sequelae of disease and psychosocial morbidities such as depression, low self-esteem, and decreased body image [5356]. Limitations with the hips and knees can make it difficult for women with RA to engage in sexual activities and can have a detrimental effect in their quality of life and relationships [54, 56, 57]. After controlling for disease activity and pain intensity, physical performance has been directly related to sexual activity and satisfaction [54].…”

“…Sexual problems have been reported more frequently by women either in RA populations [ 21 , 23 , 60 , 74 ] or in the general population [ 75 – 77 ]; meanwhile, the male sex has been associated with desire for sexual intercourse and frequency of sexual contact [ 74 ], which could be considered a surrogate for “importance assigned to SRH.” However, there is a hegemonic masculinity that requires confirmation and legitimization through active male involvement in sexuality [ 78 ]. In addition, men with RA reported a large impact on sexuality compared to women [ 21 ].…”
