Permafrost (Permagel en catalán) es una novela de la poeta y escritora Eva Baltasar. Publicada en 2018, la novela ganó notable popularidad tanto en Cataluña como en el resto de España. Desde su publicación, ha sido traducida a diferentes idiomas con gran éxito. Su traducción al inglés llegó al Reino Unido en 2020 de la mano de la traductora estadounidense Julia Sanches. La historia de Baltasar se centra en una mujer lesbiana en la cuarentena que, víctima del entorno hostil en el que se ve obligada a vivir, fantasea con el suicidio y, al mismo tiempo, muestra un impulso hedonista que la lleva a disfrutar al máximo de su condición humana, principalmente a través del sexo. La novelaexplora en profundidad el deseo sexual, desplegado de forma muy estética en la poesía en prosa de la autora, que consigue evocar imágenes de fuerte simbolismo e inmediatez en un amplio abanico de combinaciones de palabras y metáforas. En primer lugar, el presente artículo explora la repercusión de la novela tanto en su territorio original como entre el público anglosajón, y la fuerte presencia del tema del sexo, un tema muy citado en las reseñas de la obra. En segundo lugar, analiza la descripción del deseo lésbico (queer) en el original y su traslado a la lengua inglesa a través de las premisas de la traducción queer y feminista. Aplicando una perspectiva queerfeminista, el análisis describe la eficacia de la traducción al trasvasar los contenidos a otra realidad cultural y lingüística.

The present study sought to highlight and categorize EFL Egyptian learners' grammatical errors for identifying the linguistic deficits that are interfering with their ability to produce well-structured grammatical sentences. The study also aimed at proposing an integrative instructional program for overcoming grammatical errors. The methodology adopted for data analysis was surface strategy taxonomy proposed by Dulay, Burt, and Krashen (1982). They classified grammatical errors as those of addition, omission, misformation, and misordering. The study comprised two hundred freshmen college students learning English as a foreign language. Each student was asked to write three essays on three different topics about 250 words. The findings revealed that errors pertaining to verb formation and tenses were the most frequent grammatical errors and the majority of them fell in the two categories of substitution and omission. A key finding reached by this study was that interlingual and intralingual transfer seemed to have a great impact on EFL students' learning of grammar. The study proposed an instructional program that is based on a discourse-based grammar model incorporating input-based and output-based pedagogical techniques. The purpose of the proposed program is to naturally expose learners to the target language and provide them with several opportunities for using it in real life situations. The study points to the importance of teaching grammar for performing communicative purposes to enhance learners' native-like competence. Taking up the embodied erotics of translation put forward by Aarón Lacayo and drawing on Luce Irigaray's figure of the lips as meeting the other at the threshold of their irreducible becoming, this paper presents the make-out session, or 'pash' of translation, as a framework for producing multilingual writing that preserves the messy, multidirectional movement of interlingual translation on the page. Close textual analysis of Kathy Acker's Don Quixote and Giannina Braschi's Yo-Yo Boing! serves to demonstrate that such a mode of translative writing defers textual closure so as to facilitate the emergence of a multiplicity of textual resonances and highlight the asymmetries and discomfort of the interlingual encounter. An accompanying creative text, also published in this edition of TEXT (Fisher 2020), experiments with the application of such multidirectional and 'suspended' translation techniques to produce a response to a poem by the Argentinian author Alejandra Pizarnik, moving between Old Provençal, Castellano and English to produce a piece of poetic prose that interrogates the frustration of displaced infatuation, the ethically questionable state of travelling 'for pleasure' and the embodied resonances between material discursive bodies in various states of becoming and becoming undone in desire.
