Shape memory materials based on adamantane-containing polyurethanes

Abstract: In this contribution, a series of adamantane (AD)-containing polyurethanes were prepared from 1,3-adamantanediol, 1,4-butanediol and hexamethylene diisocyanate, and the influences of AD on the shape memory behavior of polyurethanes were systematically studied. Due to large steric hindrance, AD was able to disrupt the regular arrangement of polyurethane chains and contributed to forming an amorphous domain. It was found that moderate AD-containing polyurethanes had good mechanical properties and broad glass tra… Show more

“…From Table 2, it can be seen that the T d of all samples was around 303 °C, which was higher than the usual thermal degradation temperature of 250−260 °C for bio-based PUs. 38,39 This was attributed to the addition of rigid betulin, which led to an increase in the rigidity of the PU cross-linked network and improved thermal stability. However, the T d values did not increase significantly with the increase of betulin.…”

“…1,3-Adamantanediol has a wide range of applications due to its rigid diamond-like structure, nonconjugated system, and bis-hydroxy functional groups. In the semiconductor field, adamantane-modified photoresist materials have improved performance in various aspects. For instance, Cheng and co-workers synthesized the low dielectric material 1,3-bis[(1,2-dihydro-benzocyclobutene-4-yl)methylvinylsilyloxy]adamantane with a high glass transition temperature, good thermal stability, and high cross-linking density. Anna and co-workers generated 1,3-bis(pyren-2-yl)adamantane by the interaction of pyrene and 1,3-adamantanediol.…”

“…Therefore, the development of the performance of Cu and its alloys became an imperative issue in order to meet the industrial challenges in several industries such as machinery, electronic, transport and others. The most effective strategy to attain higher performance is the introducing of secondary phase in Cu matrix to fabricate Cu-matrix composites (CMCs) [3,4]. The main advantages involve high thermal and electrical conductivities, along with excellent mechanical performance and processing properties [5,6].…”
