“…This is so especially since these papers are often authored by graduate students and/or scholars working in nations with considerably fewer resources than we who work in the United States have access to; in other words, many of these papers are authored by scholars, or scholars in-themaking, who would really benefit from thoughtful reviews by experts in their fields. But in such cases I must weigh the benefits to the authors against the likelihood of exhausting reviewers and maybe even prejudicing them against the journal (Wellington and Nixon 2005). That is, if I send out too many Bbad^papers for review potential reviewers may conclude that everything having to do with the journal is Bbad.^Overall, though, papers in this category are numerically few and, although I much prefer to deliver good news over bad news, not especially difficult to reject.…”
