“…Women are known to depend on IFTs prominent among which are shea and dawadawa trees for income generation necessary to support their families and for their economic emancipation ( Kanlisi et al., 2014 ; Mawa et al., 2021 ). Although forests and trees constitute veritable ecological systems that inure benefits for the sustenance and well-being of humanity (FAO, 2010), it is recognized general consensus that climate change and other environmental change stressors, such as bush-burning and tree-logging have devastating effects on the distribution and availability of forests and tree resources ( Mbow et al., 2014 ; Tom-Dery et al., 2019 ). Thus, the consequences for rural livelihoods that are largely dependent on the extractive industry in the arid regions of SSA should be a key concern in development.…”
