“…Ischemia/reperfusion injury due to microvascular abnormalities, metabolic cascades, and end products activated by hyperglycemia, inflammatory processes, oxidative stress, and cellular factors in patients with DM may cause decreased blood flow, ischemia, and edema within the nerve, which finally lead to the axonal loss and nerve fiber degeneration called DPN . Ultrasound is the first‐line choice for in vivo imaging of peripheral nerve abnormalities and can show the cross‐sectional area, thickness, echogenicity, continuity, mass, vascularity, and mobility . Hypoechogenicity of the nerve and increases in the cross‐sectional area and thickness are commonly observed findings of entrapment neuropathies on US imaging .…”

“…The participants were asked not to move or tighten their upper or lower extremity muscles and fingers during SWE, and maximum care was taken not to stretch or compress the nerves. Maximum care was taken to prevent excessive pressure while the US probe was positioned over the nerves and to place the probe away from adjacent vascular structures . Color Doppler US was used to determine the adjacent artery and vein when needed.…”
