Shelter planning for uncertain seismic hazards using multicriteria decision approach: A case of Nepal earthquake

Abstract: This paper explores the location and relocation decision problem of temporary shelters under uncertain damage situations in humanitarian relief contexts. The article proposes a multicriteria decision support framework based on fuzzy sets, analytic hierarchy process, technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution, and weighted goal programming to address the issue of temporary shelter planning. The paper formulates a multiobjective location–relocation model that considers multiple objectives of … Show more

“…The first case corresponds to single-stage problems while the second case leads to two-stage problems in which the demand node allocations are recourse variables. In this context, most of the works have been focused on the investigation of integer programming modeling and heuristic solution approaches (see e.g., [Baron et al, 2011, Hasani and Mokhtari, 2018, Paul and Wang, 2015, Trivedi and Singh, 2017, Trivedi and Singh, 2019). 2…”

“…Application of the fuzzy theory is extended based on the works of Yager and Zadeh (1992) who have utilised decision processes in complex and intelligent systems which are widely used in various basic sciences, engineering and humanities (Asan and Soyer, 2009;Sałabun, 2014;Sałabun et al, 2015;Doumposm et al, 2016;Garg, 2017;Faizi et al, 2017;Benítez et al, 2018;Toth and Vacik, 2018;Trivedi and Singh, 2019;Gharanfoli and Valmohammadi, 2019). In geo-engineering and rock engineering, use of fuzzy theory is outreached quickly.…”

“…Furthermore, the incorporation of GIS and AHP has been proved to be an efficient means to resolve issues in several fields of study such as landfill site selection problem (Adewumi et al, 2019;Ajibade et al, 2019); complex healthcare decision-making problems (Glaize et al, 2019); temporary shelter site selection for humanitarian relief (Trivedi & Singh, 2019); water resources management (Ajibade et al, 2021;Chowdary et al, 2013); landslides mapping (Adewumi et al, 2016;Feizizadeh & Blaschke, 2013); and pollution (Negi & Jain, 2008).…”
