“…Bangladesh is an endemic zone for diarrheal diseases and in recent years, STEC non-O157:H7 has also been isolated from hospitalized patients. Although the STEC non-O157:H7 is an uncommon pathogen among the hospitalized patients with diarrhea, however, the low prevalence of STEC non-O157:H7 in Bangladesh might be due to acquired immunity against the pathogen in the population (Islam et al, 2007). Apart from the few reports on the isolation and virulence study of STEC O157:H7 from slaughtered animals, no STEC O157:H7 has been isolated either from diarrheal patients or other sources in Bangladesh (Islam et al, 2008).…”
