Sho-saiko-to, a traditional herbal medicine, regulates gene expression and biological function by way of microRNAs in primary mouse hepatocytes

Abstract: BackgroundSho-saiko-to (SST) (also known as so-shi-ho-tang or xiao-chai-hu-tang) has been widely prescribed for chronic liver diseases in traditional Oriental medicine. Despite the substantial amount of clinical evidence for SST, its molecular mechanism has not been clearly identified at a genome-wide level.MethodsBy using a microarray, we analyzed the temporal changes of messenger RNA (mRNA) and microRNA expression in primary mouse hepatocytes after SST treatment. The pattern of genes regulated by SST was ide… Show more

“…The specific analgesic mechanisms of BV are unclear, but several mechanisms have been suggested. Activation of spinal α2-adrenoceptors, decreased c-fos expression, and the N -methyl- d -aspartate receptor blockade are mechanisms that have been suggested in previous studies [ 6 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ]. We found that BV injection significantly reduced NK-1 expression in DRG, potentially suggesting a novel analgesic mechanism of BV, in which suppressed NK-1 expression results in a decrease in Substance P (SP) signalling.…”

“…There are recent studies that indicated positive influences of mental imagery on PA outcomes. 16 , 30 , 31 The exercisers who imagine being fitter and healthier might improve their expectancy from workout program. On the other side, regular exercisers will improve their imagery ability and easily use appearance or energy images during or after workout sessions.…”

“…The importance of considering these domains of outcomes is observed in a qualitative study that evaluated the patients' expectations for the outcomes of treatments based on complementary and alternative medicine. The authors pointed out that patients expect the proposed treatments to have an impact on pain, improvement of function and general well-being [45].…”
