Shock–Room Management of Pelvic Ring Lesions*

Abstract

European Journal of Trauma Ab stractPelvic fractures are secondary to high-energy trauma and frequently present with other associated injuries. They are rare, accounting for 3-8% of all skeletal fractures, but they can be potentially devastating injuries. Early death following these injuries is usually due to uncontrolled hemorrhage. A multidisciplinary approach in the management of these injuries in conjunction with the advances made in critical care medicine and the implementation of aggressive medical and surgical protocols have contributed to a significant reduction of the mortality rates. This article is focused on the principles of early shock management of these injuries.
