“…However, soft tissue infections present various clinical manifestations, among which we can nd ulcers, gastrointestinal symptoms, cellulitis, abscesses, and wound infection, often preceded by chronic ulceration, trauma, burns, and/or exposure to a uvial body; symptoms of infection appear 1 to 5 days after initial contact with the bacteria; These may also include fever, asthenia, adynamia, and constitutional symptoms associated with infections. (1,2,12,14,18,(21)(22)(23) In the latest published studies on the new family Shewanellaceae, it has been described that 40% of the cases involve pure cultures of Shewanella, mainly associated with infection of the skin and soft tissues, associated with skin breaks such as ulcers or after trauma, as well as benign bacteremia only described in 2 studies; one of which was associated with severe hepatobiliary disease and malignancy with an often-fulminant course. However, the existing infection by Shewanella spp in clinical samples is S. putrefaciens and S. algae, of which more than 80% of human isolates are due to S. algae.…”

“…In this study, no cases were reported in Colombia, however, when doing a review of the literature, two isolated cases were found in Colombia, none of which occurred in the pediatric population. (3,11,12) Therefore, we present the clinical case of a pediatric patient with septic monoarthritis of the left knee, infectious by S. Putrefaciens, acquired in the community, in its natural environment.…”
