Short‐ and long‐term clinical and patient‐reported outcomes following laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy using biological mesh for pelvic organ prolapse: a prospective cohort study of 224 consecutive patients

Abstract: LVMR using Permacol is associated with low morbidity and mortality, recurrence and, additionally, significantly improved constipation, faecal incontinence and prolapse functional and quality of life outcomes, with associated improvement in urogynaecological symptoms.

“…Commentary on 'Short-and long-term clinical and patient-reported outcomes following laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy using biological mesh for pelvic organ prolapse: a prospective cohort study of 224 consecutive patients' Laparoscopic ventral rectopexy (LVR) is still surrounded by controversy, especially regarding the indications for surgery and the prosthetic mesh to be used. In this issue, McLean et al report the long-term outcomes after LVR with a Permacol TM mesh in a consecutive series of patients with external rectal prolapse (ERP) (N = 73) and symptomatic internal rectal prolapse (IRP) (N = 112), the largest prospective patient series to date [1].…”
