Abstract:BACKGROUND
Childhood trauma is pervasive, with approximately 50% of adolescents experiencing at least one potentially traumatic event (PTE) before adulthood. Of PTE-exposed adolescents, 8-33% develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD can cause extreme suffering and coincides with a high number of comorbid illnesses and high-risk behaviors.
