Short-baseline oscillation scenarios at JUNO and TAO

Abstract: We study the sensitivity of JUNO and TAO to the oscillations induced by two well-motivated scenarios beyond the standard model: Large Extra Dimensions (LED) and light sterile neutrinos in the context of 3+1 neutrino mixing. We find that JUNO+TAO can set competitive bounds on the parameter space of each scenario. In particular, we find that JUNO+TAO can be competitive with MINOS, DUNE or KATRIN in the context of LED. If LED are present in nature, we show that the parameters could be measured with a similar prec… Show more

“…Sensitivity to LED-induced oscillations is expected to be limited by systematical uncertainties that impact the shape of the spectrum, especially at the near detectors. This has been implemented in forecast studies, through simulations of data at different experiments like DUNE [80,90], SBND [91], and JUNO [81]. Since LED oscillations occur at short and long baselines simultaneously, a two-detector analysis has better prospects for testing this hypothesis.…”

“…In Fig. 1 (right panel), a comparison of the DUNE [79], JUNO [80], and MINOS [81] sensitivity to LED-induced oscillations is shown. For the DUNE analysis only the far detector spectral information was used to test the LED hypothesis, and 5% systematic errors were assumed in the simulation.…”
