Short‐term results of rotoresection for benign prostatic hyperplasia: a prospective study of safety and efficacy

Abstract: of >1.8 mg/mL were excluded. The adenoma was resected using the Rotoresect® system (Karl Storz, Tuttlingen, Germany); the mean ( SD ) operative duration was 45.2 (9.9) min. The catheter was removed after 1.97 (0.3) days and patients assessed at 1, 3 and 6 months after surgery by an AUA score, Q max , blood haemoglobin level, urine analysis and transrectal ultrasonography; all patients but two completed the follow-up. RESULTSAt 6 months the mean ( SD ) AUA score decreased from 20.5 (3.8) to 1.6 (1.3), the Q max… Show more

“…The patients assessed were those reported previously [3]; they were aged 50–80 years, with an AUA‐7 symptom index of ≥ 13, a maximum urinary flow rate (Q max ) of ≤12 mL/s with a voided volume of ≥ 125 mL, a prostatic length determined on cystoscopy of 3–5 cm, a prostate volume of 20–80 mL, and a PSA level of <4 ng/mL, or 4–10 ng/mL with a negative prostate biopsy. All patients gave informed written consent.…”

“…The Rotoresect TM (Karl Storz, Tuttlingen, Germany) system is a modification of the electrovaporization method, that combines rotation of a specially designed electrode with high‐frequency current, and initial clinical results with this system were promising. The present report evaluated the durability of the previously reported success [3].…”
