This contrasts with other activities in histopathology practice such as gross dissection of specimens and postmortem examination, where the need for eye protection has long been recognized, as well as in other medical specialties such as surgery and radiology, where the risk of eye injury and/or contamination is recognized and protective eye devices are available and their use encouraged 1–7 .
