“…FTIR spectra were analyzed using the following two procedures. First, the relative amounts of Si–O–Si, Si–C, and Si–H groups attached to the HT-SiQDs and RT-SiQDs were determined from the integrated intensities of the IR absorption bands and absorption cross sections, (Figure c–f), as listed in Table (see the Supporting Information). Since the HT-SiQDs had 8% Si–C functional groups compared to 4% for the RT-SiQDs, the HT-SiQDs had twice as many decyl ligands as the RT-SiQDs.…”

“…Figure d shows a typical Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum of de-SiQDs. Each IR absorption band is attributed to its vibrational modes. Herein, the relative amounts of Si–H and Si–O–Si groups were calculated using absorption cross sections and integrated areas of the IR bands (see Supporting Information section 6). Briefly, these analyses delivered the number of Si–H and Si–O–Si groups, and their relative amounts were used to calculate the coverage.…”

“…Introduction of covalently bonded surface species (e.g., alkyl, polymers, oxides, etc.) 42,[55][56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63] has been met with differing degrees of success in passivating these defect states, preventing oxidation, and minimizing DB formation. Among the various approaches, alkyl-functionalized SiQDs are convenient systems for evaluating photostability because the functionalization increases solution processibility while imposing negli-gible effects on the optical band gap of the nanoparticles.…”
