Sialadenoma papilliferum: Bibliometric analysis

Abstract: BackgroundSialadenoma papilliferum is a benign rare condition of salivary glands showing a characteristic papillary growth of the ductal epithelium that ends up being confused with more frequent lesions of the oral cavity. Objectives: To perform a bibliometric analysis of all articles about Sialadenoma papilliferum in the oral cavity and to add a singular case report of Sialadenoma in the lower lip.Material and MethodsA total of 36 publications referring to Sialadenoma papilliferum in the oral cavity from the … Show more

“…2 SP commonly occurs on the palate and clinically can be easily misdiagnosed for squamous papilloma or verrucous hyperplasia. 4,7 These recent findings reinforce the functional role of the RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of ductal papillomas of the salivary glands. Thus, we investigated the presence of the BRAF V600E mutation in SP of the minor salivary glands using an anti-BRAF V600E monoclonal antibody (VE1 clone).…”

“…Despite the similar clinical features of SialP and papillary lesions of the squamous mucosa such as SqP, histological discrimination is generally not a problem because of the submucosal glandular proliferation in addition to the common squamous papillary growth (7,(9)(10)(11). The problem is that SqP arising in the salivary gland duct orifice, the opening, can pathologically mimic SialP, confusing the pathologist and leading to misdiagnosis.…”

“…Patients were followed‐up for 6 to 122 months; no recurrence or progression was observed in any patients, suggesting that pulmonary SP primarily demonstrates a benign clinical course. Nevertheless, malignant transformation of salivary SP has been described in some case reports 13,14 …”
