“…Allergic reactions of all sorts were more common in patients receiving multiple injections for syphilis than in patients given one injection for the treatment of gonorrhoea. Morton (1957) reported on 9,382 injections of penicillin given to 403 patients: with 5,870 injections of procaine penicillin given to 256 patients, there were nine instances of anaphy-lactic reaction, but with 3,512 injections of the longacting benethamine penicillin given to 147 patients, there was only one such case; all recovered.…”
