Signal Comparison of Developed EEG Device and Emotiv Insight Based on Brainwave Characteristics Analysis

Abstract: The usage of wireless system and dry electrode on electroencephalography (EEG) device becomes widely demanding, particularly in commercial purposes. While the wireless system is needed for lesser cable interference and practical function for mobility, the dry electrode is very important for signal consistency in longer period of brainwave acquisition. Previously, a wireless EEG device was developed in our laboratory; however, the evaluation of the acquired brainwave is needed for further usage and development.… Show more

“…EEG is also considered one of the most widely used neuromarketing tools and fMRI (Pratama et al , 2020). By using different electrodes attached to subjects’ scalps at specific places on the head, EEG devices measure other brain states.…”

“…When using EEG devices, one has to fulfill several other requirements. These include a clean scalp, clean electrodes, minimum participant activities, including head movements, since a small movement could generate muscle-based signals known as artifacts (Pratama et al, 2020 ). We instructed all participants to stay as still as possible and not to wear any makeup during the experiment.…”

“…It is a wireless device with a 128 Hz sampling rate, making it a good selection for daily use [ 33 ]. Using dry electrodes provides signal consistency for more extended periods of time versus other devices, such as an Emotiv EPOC, which requires removing the headset to wet the sensors to avoid a lack of conductivity, which results in noisy readings [ 34 ]. Furthermore, reducing the number of wires and objects around the patient is paramount, considering that the user is already bound to the exoskeleton and the treadmill.…”
