“…These issues are certainly important for medical application of helical, cone-beam CT, yet so far these algorithms have been applied to simulated data that model acquisition with a monochromatic x-ray source. It is clear that the reconstructed images will in general be degraded due to physical factors such as beam-hardening (Sidky et al 2003); however, further development in detector technology may allow for some energy resolving capability by simultaneously detecting x-rays in two different energy windows (Giakos et al 2002).
