“…La anatomía foliar también está relacionada con el tipo de fotosíntesis que poseen las plantas, pudiendo ser fotosíntesis C3, C4 o CAM (Taniguchi & Cousins, 2018). En las Poaceae, las Panicoideae pertenecen al grupo de plantas con fotosíntesis C4, mientras que C3 se encuentran en las tribus Pooideae y Festucoideae.…”

“…Moreover, mesophyll chloroplasts redistribute toward the BS side of the mesophyll cells in response to environmental stresses such as drought, salinity, hyperosmosis, and strong sunlight, whereas BS chloroplasts hardly move under these stress conditions (Lal & Edwards 1996;Yamada et al 2009;Maai et al 2011b;Taniguchi & Cousins 2018;Maai et al 2020). The directional movement of C 4 mesophyll chloroplasts is referred to as 'aggregative movement' and is observed in many C 4 plant species (Yamada et al 2009;Kato et al 2022).…”

“…In C 4 plants, chloroplast movement following short term changes in light quality in maize was proposed to result in better coordination between CO 2 fixation in mesophyll and bundle sheath cells, and thus reduced Φ ( Sun et al , 2014 ). The aggregative movement is assumed to boost photosynthesis through improved light penetration or by shortening the diffusion path of metabolites and re-fixation of leakage CO 2 ( Taniguchi et al , 2003 ; Yamada et al , 2009 ; Maai et al , 2011 , 2020a ; Taniguchi and Cousins, 2018 ). However, it was found that the extent of aggregative movement did not differ for different bundle sheath chloroplast positions and for the presence or absence of a suberin lamella in bundle sheath cells, factors that may affect CO 2 leakage, its refixation and metabolite transport ( Kato et al , 2022 ).…”
