Significance of Chemical Priming on Yield and Yield Components of Wheat under Drought Stress

Abstract: Drought is the most important factor limiting plant production in the majority of agricultural crops of the world. Wheat is generally grown on arid-agricultural fields. An experiment was conducted at the Plant physiology research area, Agronomic Research Institute Faisalabad, during winter 2010-11 to evaluate the effect of drought on wheat variety Lasani 2008. The experiment was comprised of following treatments. T 1 Normal moisture (3 IR at CRS, Booting and grain filling), T 2 No irrigation (only rainfed) con… Show more

“…Finally, the treatment with zinc nanoparticles plus chitosan is listed as the best treatment against moderate stress, and the treatments with Codasil and Osmoplant as the best treatments against severe stress in bean plants (Figure 10). As the literature indicates, one of the processes most affected by drought is photosynthetic activity due to the reduction in the photosynthetic area, stomatal closure, the reduction in the synthesis of chlorophyll pigments and the deterioration of the photosynthetic machinery [48]. Within the mechanisms of action of commercial products called osmoregulators is the increase in the efficient use of water through restricting transpiration, closing the stomata and reducing evaporation from the surface of the leaf to avoid dehydration and preserve turgor [49].…”

“…Finally, Bagheri et al. (2019) examined the impact of auxin priming on wheat yield under drought stress. They applied different levels of drought stress, bacterial inoculations (azotobacter, pseudomonas, or both), and auxin priming (at various concentrations) to wheat plants.…”

“…Exogenous melatonin could enhance kiwifruit heat tolerance (Liang et al ) and cucumber chilling tolerance (Marta et al ) due to improvements in antioxidant defense. Another potential natural metabolite, glycinebetaine, can reduce the impact of salt stress on the growth of rice (Demiral and Türkan ) and improve drought stress resistance in wheat (Sher et al ). In addition, several other metabolites were reported to improve abiotic stress tolerance: exogenous 5‐aminolevulinic acid improved chilling stress (Korkmaz et al ), and exogenous ascorbic acid and salicylic acid regulated ROS and the activities of antioxidant enzymes (Latif et al , Mutlu et al ).…”
