Silk fibroin-based vascular repairing sheet with angiogenic-promoting activity of SVVYGLR peptide regenerated the damaged vascular in rats

Abstract: Medical sheets are useful in surgically repair vascular disease. To avoid long-term side effects, they are to be replaced with regenerated tissue after implantation. Silk fibroin is a fibrous protein secreted by silkworm. The advantage of silk fibroin is its biocompatibility and has been used as regenerative artificial materials. The problem of its biodegradability is that the effect is time consuming. In this study, SVVYGLR peptide was used to expect promoting cell migration and accelerating the biodegradatio… Show more

“…To compare the ability of the SVVYGLR peptide to induce angiogenesis, a transplant was also performed using only SF with polyurethane. Despite similar cellular composition in both cases, more advanced angiogenesis was found in the presence of the SVVYGLR peptide [69].…”

“…Reducing the time needed for biodegradation makes it possible to prevent the occurrence of side effects of the transplant, such as an inflammatory reaction. The migration of epithelial cells as well as smooth muscle cells occurs faster, which contributes to a faster similarity of the graft to a natural blood vessel [69].…”

“…SF is one of the most popular biopolymers for tissue bioengineering scaffolds and holds great promise for tissue engineering applications. According to a previous study, the incorporation of SF can promote the wound repair ability of wound dressings, cell proliferation, and angiogenesis in damaged tissues [150]. These advantages of SF are also good improvements for repairing bone defects.…”

“…When a nonwoven fabric made by mixing silk fibroin and PU with SVVYGLR peptides with angiogenesis ability was buried in the rat abdominal aorta, many minute neovascular vessels were confirmed, in addition to the decomposition of materials and the formation of endothelial and smooth muscle layers, in which tissue infiltration and vascular neogenesis were similar to native blood vessels. These strategies affect the immediate effect and the longer-term performance [ 44 , 45 ].…”
