Silver-doped polyaniline–polyvinyl chloride nanocomposite films for photocatalytic and antibacterial applications

Abstract: Silver-doped polyaniline–polyvinyl chloride (PVC) nanocomposite films (Ag.PANI–PVC) were synthesized by non-solvent-induced phase inversion method. The nanomaterials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet, and field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis. Thermal stability and tensile strength of the Ag-doped and undoped PANI–PVC films were studied. The photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposites on methylene blue dye under visible light was eval… Show more

“…PANI nanocomposites have been developed in combination with various antimicrobial agents including silver NPs, TiO 2 , releasable drugs and biomolecules, and the nonleachable compounds, such as quaternary ammonium salts, to prepare a number of antimicrobial devices. 42,62,69,88 PANI nanofibers combined with mupirocin, a topical microbicidal compound, have been prepared via a self-assembly approach for their potential applications as a wound healing dress. 89 It was shown by the agar diffusion method that the antibacterial activity of the PANI-mupirocin was higher than that of the neat PANI due to the release of mupirocin.…”

“…Moreover, plasmonic metal nanoparticles, such as Ag, Au, Cu, Pt, and Ni, modied rGO or PANI were synthesized for improving photocatalytic activity. 20,21 These metal nanoparticles because of their surface plasmon resonance have strong absorption efficiency in the visible region. Among these, Ag NPs due to biocompatibility, reasonable cost, stability, and easy reduction from salts using mild reducing agents have extensively been used to enhance the catalytic activity of the composite.…”

“…In addition, researchers and technologists have been interested in the study and production of nanosize material, particularly, with mounting their applications in optical and electronics manufacturing [17,18]. The procedure of consolidating PMMA, PANI, and metal nanocomposites can assist in the formation of new materials with enhanced optical and structural characteristics [19]. The various traits of Titanium dioxide including its high index of refractive as well as its low cost, chemical stability, nontoxicity, hydrophilicity, high photocatalytic characteristics makes it one of the best semiconductor ceramic material.…”
