Silver‐Doped Zinc Oxide as a Nanofiller for Development of Poly(vinyl alcohol)/Poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) Blend Nanocomposites

Abstract: Nanocomposites of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP)/silver-doped zinc oxide (Ag-doped ZnO) ternary blends were prepared and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet (UV), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and conductivity studies. The FTIR and UV spectrum indicated the intermolecular interaction between the polar part of blend and the metal oxide nanopa… Show more

“…The spectrum of nanoparticles showed a prominent peak at 3442 cm −1 for the adsorbed water molecules on the surface of Ag‐ZnO. Further, a sharp intense peak appeared at 496 cm −1 due to the presence of metal oxide (ZnO) group stretching . Main characteristic vibration peaks of pure PPy/PTZ blend are observed at 3396 and 2,908 cm −1 are the typical NH and CH stretching vibration of blend domains, respectively .…”

“…All the peaks recorded from the X‐ray chart is in accordance with the Joint Committee on Powder Diffraction Standard (JCPDS no. 36–1,451) cards of Ag‐doped ZnO wurtzite structure . Generally, the X‐rays will be scattered only in specific directions when they are striking the lattice planes of the periodic crystalline arrangement of atoms or group of atoms.…”

“…Another sharp peak at 1651 cm 21 was attributed to the stretching vibrations of C@C and the methyl groups of the PVA/PVP blend. 22,23 The characteristic stretching of PVP was observed at 1289 cm 21 . The FTIR spectrum of sericin powder exhibited a broad band at 3455 cm 21 ; this was related to the NH group of sericin.…”

“…The higher mechanical strength of Cl‐NBR is due to the stereo‐specific addition of dichlorocarbene unit to the double bond of the macromolecular chain of NBR which induces a strain‐induced crystallization to Cl‐NBR. Moreover, the dipolar interaction induces effective orientation of molecular chains of the elastomeric matrix which result in better stress transfer through the rubber and thus the improved tensile and tear properties . The decrease in mechanical properties of Cl‐NBR beyond 22 wt% Cl may be due to the steric hindrance and the loss of strain induced crystallization at a higher level of chlorination.…”
