Silver, Gold, and Silver-Gold Bimetallic Nanoparticle-Decorated Dextran: Facile Synthesis and Versatile Tunability on the Antimicrobial Activity

Abstract: The noble metal-based nanoparticles (NPs) have been considered as potential antimicrobial agents because of their good antibacterial and antifungal activities as well as biocompatible nature. In this study, we have introduced a simple and fast route to synthesize silver, gold, and silver-gold bimetallic NP-decorated dextran. The as-synthesized noble metal-based NPs with spherical geometry showed high dispersity in dextran. The antibacterial and antifungal of obtained nanomaterials were tested with Xanthomonas … Show more

“…The maximum absorbance due to the surface plasmon resonance of the (Au-Ag-10) 0.5 nanoparticles was observed at 498 nm. The position of SPR in the case of (Au-Ag-10) 0.5 lying between the SPRs of (Ag-10) 0.5 and (Au-10) 0.5 justifies the formation of Au-Ag bimetallic NPs [46]. Furthermore, the position of SPR in the case of (Au-Ag-10) 0.5 was blue-shifted as compared to that of Au-10 NPs, suggesting a decrease in size in the bimetallic form as compared to Au-10 NPs [47].…”

“…Ag NPs and Au/Ag NPs with high content of Ag showed much higher activity than Au NPs. Besides, Au/Ag BMNPs showed a versatile tunability on the antimicrobial activity according to the Ag content at the surface of the NPs [ 74 ].…”

“…e outcomes show that the optical transmittance of the MgO nanoparticles prepared by biosynthesis MgO nanoparticle with blue colour is greater than that of chemically prepared MgO nanoparticle with red colour, for wavelength greater than 450 nm. e higher transmittance also indicates a lower defect density of the MgO nanoparticle since absorption of light in the longer wavelength region (>500 nm) is frequently caused by crystalline faults such as grain boundaries and dislocations [35,36].…”
