Simbatch: An API for Simulating and Predicting the Performance of Parallel Resources Managed by Batch Systems

Abstract: The study of scheduling algorithms for parallel tasks in a grid computing context either neglects local reservation systems which manage parallel resources, either suppose that they use a First Come First Served strategy, or the experimental model does not handle parallel tasks. In this report, we describe an API built in the grid simulation tool Simgrid. It offers core functionalities to simulate in a realistic way parallel resources and batch reservation systems. Simbatch simulation experiments show an error… Show more

“…However, the simulator provided by [15] supports ALS algorithms in such a way that it can no longer support BLS algorithms. BLS simulation based on an ALS simulation toolkit: Simbatch [20] is a SimGrid-based simulator. Simbatch uses the MSG interface of SimGrid to support simulations and development of BLS algorithms.…”

“…Alea also oers an interesting dynamic scheduling feature allowing jobs to be submitted during the simulation and support the management of priority queues [11]. In the early stage of this work, we used the SimBatch tool [14] for our evaluations. This framework, whose maintenance and evolution are no longer supported, was based on the SimGrid toolkit [15].…”

“…This simulator can be driven by real or artificial load. Simbatch simulator [12] provides the ability to evaluate scheduling algorithms for batch schedulers. The Monarc 2 simulator [13] is a simulation framework designed to provide a design and optimization tool for large-scale distributed computing systems.…”
