“…The COVID‐19 pandemic has presented youth‐serving organizations with significant operational and healthcare challenges, as the transmission of COVID‐19 has been documented in out‐of‐school time settings such as summer camp (D'Agostino et al, 2021; Szablewski et al, 2020) and had pronounced impacts on the camp industry since early 2020 (Povilaitis & Wycoff, 2021). Summer camp is an environment uniquely situated to provide an estimated 14 000 million youth annually (American Camp Association, 2021) with the essential elements of positive youth development (Garst et al, 2011; Povilaitis & Tamminen, 2018), including access to physically and emotionally safe settings with caring adults that provide a host of engaging, skill‐building activities (Flynn et al, 2019; Warner, Sibthorp, et al, 2021). Additionally, youth participation in summer camp experiences has been linked to short‐ and long‐term benefits across domains, including improved health outcomes (Seal & Seal, 2011; Weaver et al, 2014) and enhanced socio‐emotional growth (Thurber et al, 2007; Warner, Sibthorp, et al, 2021).…”
