Simple holographic duals to boundary CFTs

Abstract: By relaxing the regularity conditions imposed in arXiv:1107.1722 on half-BPS solutions to six-dimensional Type~4b supergravity, we enlarge the space of solutions to include two new half-BPS configurations, which we refer to as the \kap\ and the \funnel. We give evidence that the \kap\ and \funnel\ can be interpreted as fully back-reacted brane solutions with respectively $AdS_2$ and $AdS_2\times S^2$ world volumes. \kap\ and \funnel\ solutions with a single asymptotic $AdS_3 \times S^3$ region are constructed … Show more

“…One approach to construct exact solutions, which has been very fruitful in the past, is to solve BPS conditions for the existence of backgrounds which preserve a subset of super symmetries of the AdS vacuum. This approach has been very successful in constructing half BPS Janus solutions in type IIB [10,11], M-theory [12,47] and six dimensional supergravity [15,16,31,32]. It would be very interesting to explore these methods to construct BPS solutions for the the relevant deformations related to the ones in the present paper.…”

“…These solutions were constructed for four dimensional BCFTs [28,29,30] and for two dimensional BCFTs [31]. Note that these solutions are necessarily singular.…”

“…It may also be possible to perform direct calculations in holographic CFTs by assuming something about the structure of holographic BCFT correlators, similar to the calculations in [83,84]. Another possibility we are pursuing is to develop a general calculational tools based on a randomness assumption, similar to the eigenstate thermalization already been understood: see [78,79,80]. 21 We thank Volker Schomerus for this suggestion.…”

“…These examples include the d = 4 BCFT arising from D3-branes ending on D5-branes [31], the d = 3 BCFT arising from M2-branes ending on M5-branes [32], and the d = 2 BCFTs of refs. [33,34]. Figure 1.…”
