Simple to Complex Transfer Learning for Action Recognition

Abstract: Recognizing complex human actions is very challenging, since training a robust learning model requires a large amount of labeled data, which is difficult to acquire. Considering that each complex action is composed of a sequence of simple actions which can be easily obtained from existing data sets, this paper presents a simple to complex action transfer learning model (SCA-TLM) for complex human action recognition. SCA-TLM improves the performance of complex action recognition by leveraging the abundant label… Show more

“…Tang et al [41] improved the accuracy of action recognition in RGB videos by activating the borrowing of visual knowledge across different video modalities such as RGB videos, the depth maps, and the skeleton data of actions. Liu et al [42] proposed a simple to complex action transfer learning model (SCA-TLM) to leverage the abundant labeled simple actions to improve the performance of complex action recognition. Although these works can achieve promising results in their related fields, visible-toinfrared action recognition has not attracted much attention until now.…”

“…In recent years, some contributions in the field of action recognition have been proposed, such as in Liu, Xu, Qiu, Qing, and Tao (2016), Shi, Laganière, and Petriu (2016), and Stefic and Patras (2016). A summary report of the state-of-the-arts was discussed and presented in González et al (2015) and Ziaeefard and Bergevin (2015).…”
