Simplest N-Sulfonylamine HNSO2

Abstract: The simplest N-sulfonylamine HNSO2 has been generated in the gas phase through flash vacuum pyrolysis of methoxysulfonyl azide CH3OS(O)2N3. Its identification was accomplished by combining matrix-isolation IR spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. Both experimental and theoretical evidence suggest a stepwise decomposition of the azide via the methoxysulfonyl nitrene CH3OS(O)2N, observed in the 193 nm laser photolysis of the azide, with concerted fragmentation into CH2O and HNSO2. Upon the 193 nm laser… Show more

“…The preference of as ulfinylg eometry and the associated significant barriers for the isomerization have also been predicted for CH 3 SOC/CH 3 OSC [5b, 11] and FSOC/ FOSC. [7b] In continuation of our interest in the structures and reactivites of reactive sulfur species (e.g.,C H 3 SO 3 C, [14] HNSO 2 , [15] and OSNC), [16] we report herein the gas-phase generationo fC F 3 SOC and CF 3 OSC through high-vacuum flash pyrolysis (HVFP) of sulfoxides CF 3 S(O)X (X = CF 3 ,C l, and PhO). [13] To the best of our knowledge, only the parent molecule HOSC was detected by neutralizationreionization mass spectrometry in the collision experiment of a mixture of Me 2 SO 2 and N 2 O [6] but there is no spectroscopic evidencef or an oxathiyl radical.C onsistent with the predicted high activation barrier, [10e] no isomerization betweenHOSC and HSOC was observed.…”

“…The intermediate oil phase is chosen so that it is partially soluble in the aqueous phase (e.g. chloroform, 68,69 hexane, 68 toluene, 69 oleic acid, 70 or octanol 71 ). The intermediate oil phase thus gradually diminishes in size, leaving behind a lipid bilayer.…”

“…Continuing our interest in the synthesis and characterization of small sulfur‐containing species (e.g., HNSO 2 , OCNSO, OSCN), herein, we report the first‐time spectroscopic identification of H 2 C=C=S=O, generated in the gas phase through the FVP of vinyl sulfoxide H 2 CC(Br)−S(O)CF 3 via the intermediacy of a novel vinyl sulfinyl radical H 2 C=C(Br)−SO. The photochemistry of H 2 C=C=S=O and the reversible syn ↔ anti conformational interconversion in H 2 C=C(Br)−SO are observed in cryogenic matrices.…”
