Simulating devices with adaptive antenna arrays using OPNET integrated with MATLAB

Abstract

In this paper we present a way to use adaptive antenna arrays in OPNET (Optimized Network Evaluation Tool) simulations. Adaptive antenna patterns, which are not supported by OPNET directly, can be implemented by interfacing OP-NET with MATLAB, which performs the necessary calculations in beamforming. A MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol which is designed from the start to take advantage of an adaptive antenna system is used to demonstrate the setup.
