Simulation and analysis of eddy currents induced in the GLOBUS-M tokamak

Abstract: The paper briefly describes the main results of the numerical simulation and analysis of transient electromagnetic processes for plasma discharge scenario 3106 in the GLOBUS-M tokamak (at the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute, Russia). A developed two-dimensional plasma model uses a parametric representation of the plasma boundary assuming the parabolic distribution of the current density over the plasma cross-section.

“…A transition between these two models can be provided in the following manner [4,[24][25][26][27][28][29]. All movable current loops describing plasma in the DINA model throughout all scenario are sorted by coordinates R, Z with a given value of interval : if co-ordinates of two loops satisfy to the condition |R 1 − R 2 | ≤ , |Z 1 − Z 2 | ≤ , these loops are assumed coincident.…”

“…Detailed dynamic analyses of eddy currents and forces within the vacuum vessel have been undertaken during major disruptions, which could potentially inflict severe damage to the TFTR device [4]. The finite element method has been applied to compute eddy currents on magnets during disruptions in the Tore Supra Tokamak [5], and the transient electromagnetic processes in conducting structures have been analyzed through the TYPHOON code on the GLOBUS-M tokamak [6]. Additionally, a mathematical model has been developed to simulate eddy currents, and the outcomes are consistent with measurements of electromotive force and current distribution on the ETE spherical tokamak [7].…”
