Simulation Modeling and Analysis: A Collateral Application and Exposition of RFID Technology

Abstract: RFID technology provides in‐depth, real‐time visibility into the status of assets throughout the supply chain. However, the deployment of RFID technology may have collateral value in the high‐quality data generated by these assets. This study explores the potential value of RFID data for tactical and strategic purposes and the redesign of processes within supply chain through the deployment of simulation modeling and analysis. We present a simulation study conducted at a regional hospital for which data relate… Show more

“…Emphasis is on delivering business value through refining business processes and expanding the business model. Amini et al (2007) presents a simulation study conducted at a regional hospital for which data related to trauma patient movement was collected with an RFID-based system. IDTechEX (2006) states that the market for RFID tags and systems in healthcare will rise rapidly from $90 million in 2006 to $2.1 billion in 2016.…”

“…For example, Lu and Cheng [8] simulated the role of RFID in a typical manufacturing system and estimated an improvement of more than 8% was possible. Amini et al [9] presented a simulation study conducted in a regional hospital to investigate tactical and strategic purposes in addition to collateral value quality data generated by this technology.…”
