Simulation of bespoke garments using parametrically designed patterns

Abstract: PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the simulation of garments with various combinations of shape and size using a parametric pattern design method.Design/methodology/approachThe approach of this study is to design garment patterns using a text‐based script language and assemble them on a deformable virtual body model to evaluate the appearance and fit of the resulting garment to facilitate the garment design process.FindingsIn this study, various garment patterns are designed parametrically by an e… Show more

“…In the process of model conversion, in order to obtain a numerical solution of the converted object, it is necessary to divide the model discretely, and the method commonly used is the triangle meshing method, which is not only suitable for simple and regular model areas, but also for areas with irregular shapes and more complex shapes, such as chest, seams, etc. 10 This paper uses the mesh growth algorithm to analyze and divide the two-dimensional plates of the knitted sweater.…”

“…Hence, some scholars proposed several new technologies to develop fashion sketches or patterns rapidly. These include 3D-to-2D flattening technology [12]- [25], 2D-to-3D virtual try-on and modeling technology [22], [23], 3D-to-3D garment editing [26], parametric pattern making technology [27], [28], and rapid fashion sketch generation technology [1], [3]. However, none of the previous researches attempted to combine the work of fashion sketch drawing and pattern making together.…”

“…Lai et al. 17 proposed a texture mapping technology including mesh generation, 18 mesh parameterization and encapsulation, 19 texture distortion, 20,21 and texture correction and optimization, 22 which was used to generate high-quality texture mapping of 3D models. The virtual display interactive design of the visual garment is a great support for promoting digital garments.…”

“…Mir et al 16 used the custom nonrigid 3D-2D (two-dimensional) registration method automatically to calculate the training image pair with an aligned 3D garment and learned the close correspondence from the silhouette of the garment image to the 2D-UV map of the 3D garment surface, but they only used the shape information and completely ignored the texture.
