Simulation of multi-echelon supply chain inventory transshipment models at different levels

Abstract: An inventory transshipment model comprising manufacturers, distributors, and retailers based on multi-echelon supply chains is established using the system dynamics method. Thereafter, the single-, double-, three-, and four-chain inventory transshipment models at different levels are comparatively analyzed through simulation. Studies indicated that from the single-to four-chain inventory transshipment models, the average stock level minimally changed and declined. Meanwhile, the stability of the supply chain i… Show more

“…Alamerew and Brissaud ( 2020 ) used an SDS model to optimise a manufacturing supply chain considering dynamics of cost, revenue, as well as strategic decisions and regulatory decisions for a reverse supply chain. Yan and Liu ( 2017 ) utilised SDS for investigating the impact of single, double, triple, and four chain inventory transhipment models on average stock level, supply chain stability, average customer requirement, and average customer satisfaction of manufacturing supply chains. Langroodi and Amiri ( 2016 ) developed an SDS model for choosing the appropriate region for order placement within a manufacturing supply chain in order to minimise the cost of order placement and product shipment within the supply chain.…”

“…Firouz, Keskin, & Melouk [19] considered a problem considering multi-sourcing, supplier selection, and inventory problem with lateral transshipments by a decomposition-based heuristic algorithm, along with a simulation model to minimize total cost. Yan and Liu [20] conducted simulations of multi-echelon supply chains to analyze by comparing them with respect to the average stock level, customer satisfaction rate, and transshipment cost. Although there are studies comparing PI and traditional supply chains, far too little attention has been paid to analyze sustainability.…”

“…Studies on operations research and supply chain, the impact of which is measured through a CLV measure, such as customer satisfaction, loyalty or switching behavior, are hard to find. Several studies claim to measure customer satisfaction, but they do perform that measurement indirectly through service levels or queue performance, such as in [6][7][8]. Recently, some studies have included basic CLV measures in operations decisions, stressing the need for a more comprehensive vision of metrics between operations and customer satisfaction [9].…”
