Simulation of Switching Arc Using Modified Mayr Arc Model

Abstract: This paper presents an experimental investigation on interaction between arc voltages and arc length And a black box are model based on modified Mayr arc equation is developed to describe the influence of arc lengthen arc voltages. In this model, the coefficient of arc power loss is defined to be depending on the arc length The numerical analysis is performed on EMTP. The behavior of arc is represented using Thevenin type-94 component of MODELS.

“…The authors have confirmed the suitability of the arc model discussed above and the values of the arc parameters of Table 3 by comparing the calculated results with the experiment results measured under the same conditions as Table 1, in previous studies (8) . The arc parameters, except θ 0 , shown in Table 3 are mainly used to determine the shapes of the arc voltages.…”

“…For this purpose, many black box arc models, based on Mayr arc equation, have been developed, and have been used to describe the arc behavior or used to determine the limits of the arc extinction capability by the values of the arc parameters such as arc time constant and arc power loss (2) (7) . The authors have developed an arc model, which based on the modified Mayr arc model and confirms the validity of the model and the arc parameters by comparison with the experimental results in previous studies (8) . In this paper, authors investigated the limit values of the arc parameters used to express the limits of the arc extinction capability of AS by repetition calculation, using the arc model of reference (8), and compared with that of VS.…”
